The Problem to be Solved

After spending a year as students at Duke, Sydelle and Raya noticed a common frustration among faculty: finding reliable, trustworthy childcare was often stressful and time-consuming. Simultaneously, fellow students struggled to find flexible, meaningful employment opportunities that fit around their busy academic schedules.

At Students Who Sit, we're on a mission to simplify childcare for university faculty, staff and alumni, while empowering students with rewarding, flexible work opportunities!

Meet The Founders

Hi! I’m Sydelle, the founder of Students Who Sit and an undergrad at Duke University. Growing up as one of six kids, I saw firsthand how hard it was for my parents to find reliable childcare. They cycled through sitters— late cancellations, no-shows, or just the wrong fit — and often turned to me when all else failed. I always wondered why it was so hard for families to find trusted care when so many responsible students needed flexible jobs. At Duke, my co-founder Raya and I noticed the same struggle among faculty and realized we could bridge the gap. That’s why we started Students Who Sit — to make childcare easier for university faculty while giving students meaningful, flexible work opportunities.
